“On The Road With Big Blue” – Memorial Day Parade Edition
On Monday (5/29)/Memorial Day, look for Big Blue in Mount Vernon’s Memorial Day Parade.
The parade starts at 10:30am. The parade starts at the intersection of East High Street and George Street, travels west on East High Street to Gay Street and then exits south on Gay Street to Vine Street. Then the parade travels east on Vine Street to Park Street, north on Park Street to East High, then east on High Street to the staging area.
This year’s parade theme is “America Valor: A Salute to Our Heroes”. Our parade will honor the men and women who gave their lives to preserve the freedoms we enjoy today. Please show your appreciation to the veterans that participate in this year’s parade. This year’s grand marshal is Mr. Larry Angel. A 93yr old, U.S. Navy Veteran.
The Knox County Memorial Building will host a Memorial Day Celebration directly after the parade. A special program will be held on the steps of the Memorial Building - saluting our Knox County Veterans no longer with us. The program will include music from the Mount Vernon High School Band. Junior ROTC Cadet, Ellie Salvucci will be singing of the National Anthem.
The Gold Star Mothers, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Junior ROTC Cadets will participate in the wreath placing.
The AmVets Post #95 will offer a rifle salute with taps. The Knox County Career Center USAF Junior ROTC students will offer special readings and the service of the raising of flags.
Don’t forget to listen to The Morning Thing on Memorial Day – we want to hear from you. Take a minute, call us at 740-397-WNZR (9697) and honor the service men and women that you are remembering this year. Our phone lines will be open for special Memorial Day messages.
