"on the road with big blue" memorial day Edition
On Monday (5/25) /Memorial Day, look for Big Blue in Mount Vernon’s Memorial Day Parade. The parade starts at 10:30am. About 54 participants have signed up to be part of the parade.
Look for the Big Blue Crew in the parade. We will be throwing candy and frisbees!
The parade will start by heading west from the intersection of East High Street and George Street. It will then turn south (left) on South Gay Street before turning east (left) on East Vine Street. The route continues, ending at the intersection of East Vine and South Park Streets.
This year’s parade theme is “Honoring 250 Years of American Heroes”.
The nation is marking its semi-quincentennial, or 250th birthday, this year.
Our parade will honor the men and women who gave their lives to preserve the freedoms we enjoy today. Please show your appreciation to the veterans that participate in this year’s parade. The U.S. Vietnam Veterans group Ohio Rolling Thunder is serving as the parade grand marshals this year.
The Knox County Memorial Building, 112 E. High Street, will host a Memorial Day Remembrance Service directly after the parade. A special program will be held on the steps of the Memorial Building - saluting our Knox County Veterans who are no longer with us.
Ceremony highlights:
-
Kevin L. Henthorn, Executive director of Knox County Veterans Services and U.S. Air Force Veteran, will serve as master of ceremonies.
