FOOD FOR THE HUNGRY – 2023 

JOIN WNZR TO SUPPORT THE KNOX COUNTY FOOD FOR THE HUNGRY DRIVE

Food for the Hungry is the annual collection of food and funds to benefit Interchurch Social Services, The Salvation Army, Center of Hope, and other food assistance organizations of Knox County. The calendar is full of events and special collections planned to support the annual drive. Donations help stock pantry shelves and give financial assistance to support Knox County's citizens in need.

Food For The Hungry - Working together to care for our neighbors. 

 

Join WNZR at the 42nd annual Food for the Hungry drive, Friday, December 8. We will bring you live updates all day from 9am to 4pm. Join us as we share updates on the total and all activities. We will also be talking with the amazing volunteers of this project. The Big Blue Crew wants YOUR help in supporting our local food pantries! 

 

Top Ten Food Items Needed 

The top ten food items needed are peanut butter, canned meat (chicken, tuna), beef stew/hearty soups, canned pasta, boxed dinners (Hamburger Helper), spaghetti/spaghetti sauce, cereal (hot and cold), baked beans/kidney/chili beans, noodles/instant rice/potatoes, canned fruits, and vegetables. 

*Cans that can be opened without a can opener (pop top) are best. * 

 

 

The Food For The Hungry Kick-Off was Nov 1st. This year’s goal is $260,000. 

With the Kick-Off this year, Food For The Hungry announced its Winter Grant Recipients. The grants awarded totaled $40,000 and went to 21 different organizations that provide food for people in need. These grants were made possible with funds set aside from the 2022 Food For The Hungry Drive.

High School Food Drive Competition 

The kickoff for the 2023 FFTH Drive was November 1st and the High School Food Drive 

Competition will conclude on Friday December 8th. Here are the collection dates for our local schools: 

Centerburg High School: collected November 9th through the 15th 

Mount Vernon High School: collected November 8th through the 21st 

Danville High School Drive: November 1st through 30th 

Fredericktown High School Drive: November 28th through December 7th 

Knox County Career Center Drive: November 28th through December 7th

Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County Food For The Hungry Collection 

The Libraries of Knox County will be collection points for food donations November 6 through December 2. This includes: Danville Public Library, Fredericktown Community Library, Gambier Community Library, and the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County. 

The libraries will be collecting non-perishable food items, money, and care items/food for dogs and cats for the Humane Society. 

 

Happy Bean for Food For The Hungry 

The Happy Bean Coffee Shop location in the Mount Vernon Nazarene University Campus 

Library will be donating a portion of its proceeds from all sales to Food For The Hungry from 

November 27th - December 1st. The MVNU Happy Bean location is open Mon-Fri, 8 AM to 4 

PM. 

All community members are welcome! This special donation event is only taking place at the MVNU Happy Bean location. 

23rd Annual Fredericktown Christmas Walk and Charity Auction. 

This year we will celebrate a Country Christmas at the 23rd Annual Christmas Walk and Charity Auction on Saturday, December 2nd from 4pm. – 7pm. 

The event is packed with activities to get you in the Christmas spirit! 

Join us in Fredericktown to experience musical entertainment throughout the afternoon, a Gingerbread House Contest, Wagon Rides, kid's crafts, local vendors for Christmas shopping, Santa and his favorite Reindeer, Big Blue from WNZR broadcasting live at the event, a Chick-fil-A truck, and of course the auctions with proceeds supporting Food For The Hungry. 

An online auction will run from November 24- December 1. 

Then there will also be the Scrumptious Food Auction, taking place during the Christmas Walk on December 2 in the Council Chambers (formerly Senior Citizen Building). 

The Country Christmas theme will be represented by a traditional winter scene and featured on the annual ornament. Ornaments may be purchased in advance by contacting Joely Lepley at TD Landscape and the day of the event at the craft/vendor exhibits at the Presbyterian Church.

The Fredericktown Christmas Walk Charity Auction The Fredericktown Christmas Walk is hosting TWO auctions this year. An online auction will run from November 24 – December 1. Then there will also be the Scrumptious Food Auction, taking place during the Christmas Walk on December 2 in the Council Chambers (formerly Senior Citizen Building). Your quality donations are needed to make this a success. Families, friends, neighbors, churches, and local organizations are encouraged to donate baskets, service offerings, and gift certificates. The Fredericktown Christmas Walk and Auction is only possible with the help of community members. Items for the Scrumptious Food Auction can be dropped off between 12pm and 4pm on the day of the walk at the Council Chambers. The auction will take place at approximately 5pm. Items and instructions on how to bid will be posted on the Fredericktown Christmas Walk Facebook page. Be on the lookout for Food For The Hungry updates on the FFTH social media pages and website, FoodForTheHungryCares.org.

Knox Foodies Holiday Food Drive for Food For The Hungry 

Knox Foodies has organized two collection points for Saturday, Dec. 2nd. Non-perishable food items and financial donations will be accepted at the collection points. - Drive-thru collection at Road Hog Willy’s on Harcourt in Mount Vernon from 9am – Noon. - Primary Vision Care on Venture Drive in Mount Vernon from 1pm - 4pm. 

 

 

Elvis’ Lost Brother 

Elvis’ Lost Brother will be performing at Rural King on Saturday, December 2, from 2pm – 4pm. He will be accepting monetary and food donations to benefit Food For The Hungry. He will be in the front entrance area of Rural King. 

 

MVNU’s Men’s Basketball Game to Support Food For The Hungry 

Food For The Hungry will be featured and supported at the MVNU Men’s Basketball Game on 

Friday, December 8, at 5:30 PM. There will be a table at the entrance to the game featuring Food 

For The Hungry and accepting non-perishable food items and monetary donations. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Kenyon Snowflake Gala, “Swing into the Holidays” 

On Friday, December 8, Kenyon College will host the 13th Annual Snowflake Gala, “Swing into 

the Holidays,” in support of Knox County Food For The Hungry. 

The Gala will be held at the Lowry Center, 221 Duff St, Gambier, OH 43022, in the Multi-Activity Court, which will be transformed for the occasion. The Gala will begin with a cocktail reception at 6:00 PM, dinner at 7:00 PM, dancing, and the Fund-a-Cause auction to follow. 

Tickets for the 2023 Snowflake Gala are priced at $100 per person. Individuals or companies can 

sponsor a table of eight people for $1,000. All sponsors will be recognized in the program for the 

Gala. Tickets and Sponsor Tables may be reserved by calling Kenyon at 740-427-5111 or by 

visiting www.FoodForTheHungryCares.org, which offers online payment options. Tickets must 

be purchased by Monday, December 4, 2023. 

 

All net proceeds from Gala tickets and donations from the Fund-a-Cause auction benefit families 

and individuals in need in Knox County!
